The selection of our specimens for breeding in Angora, is base on the production of fiber and on the docile and calm temperament of the rabbit. Certainly the conformation is important, but the goal is the harvesting of the Angora fiber, it’s most important to get a rabbit which is growing a lot of fiber. The calm and docile disposition is also extremely important as the animal will be handle often, to harvest the coat and to cut the nails. It’s never fun to get hand and wrist all scratched. Next would be a good body conformation, meaning a strong muscle structure, large shoulders, a body three times longer than its width, a back well curved. For a rabbit to be chosen to become a breeder, it must fill those three conditions. Being able to produce a large quantity of fibre, be docile and have a good conformation. The breeding must not be done at random. Any subject which is not representative of its breed, must not be use for reproduction. The goal of selection is to improve.
Adding new blood is also very important to maintain the vitality and fertility of the breeding specimens. When we add a new specimen, we always pay attention to add a quality, without loosing the positif that we already posess in our breeding specimens.
For the meat rabbits, our selection is base on a rapid weight increase. For the breeding, in surplus of the rapid weight gain, we select for the most calm temperament Ask us with confidence for your future breeders.
